Flying After Diving

Toward avoiding decompression sickness, it is necessary to wait an appropriate amount of time after diving before ascending to altitude. PADI's flying after diving recommendations are quoted below.

For Dives within the No-Decompression Limits

  • Single Dives. A minimum preflight surface interval of 12 hours is suggested.

  • Repetitive Dives andlor Multiday Dives. A minimum preflight surface interval of 18 hours is suggested.

For Dives Requiring Decompression Stops

  • A minimum preflight surface interval greater than 18 hours is suggested.

Note: There is no need to wait to dive after flying i.e. you can dive as soon as you land..
